Talking Heads are to release a new three CD set, Tentative Decisions: Demos & Live.
This set will include dozens of previously unreleased demos and live recordings from their first two years in New York, having moved from Rhode Island. The collection will be released on March 6.
It will include tracks from the original Talking Heads line up of David Byrne, Tina Weymouth and Chris Frantz before Jerry Harrison joined up in 1977, just six months before the band released their debut album, Talking Heads: 77.
Prior to this, the set was released as an 11 track vinyl set at last year's Record Store Day Black Friday event.
An extra 15 unreleased demos which were recorded for CBS in September 1975 will also feature, along with 17 live recordings from 1976.
On the linear notes of the upcoming set, Talking Heads' Chris Frantz said: "One day, David knocked on the door of the painting studio Tina and I shared", adding:"He played us the first verse and chorus of 'Psycho Killer,' which sounded promising".
You can check out the unreleased CBS demo of Talking Heads' "Love Goes to a Building on Fire" below.
Talking Heads then began to focus on original material instead of covering Motown and Kings tracks.
Demos from 1975 and 1976 will also feature on the collection. The songs were released on Talking Heads' first two albums, 'No Compassion', 'Psycho Killer' , 'I'm Not In Love', and 'Thank You For Sending Me An Angel'.
In addition to this, live performances of New York's Max’s Kansas City (recorded on Oct. 9, 1976), the Jabberwocky Club in Syracuse, New York (Jan. 26, 1977), and New York's Lower Manhattan Ocean Club (Aug. 17, 1976) will feature on the third CD.
Along with the three CD collection, a black vinyl version of this album will be available, having been released on Record Store Day. This will also include a 7" single featuring an early version of Talking Heads called the Artistics performing two songs in Frantz's Rhode Island apartment, later reworked by the band: "Psycho Killer" and "Warning Sign". (Those songs are also on the CD.
Back in August, David Byrne said that the thoughts of reuniting Talking Heads is "a fool's errand".
Byrne spoke about this in a new interview with The Times as he was asked about band celebrating its 50th anniversary, as well as fans' hopes that they may reunite. More on this here.
Last October, Byrne also announced his and Hayley Williams' collaboration, 'Open The Door'. Check this out and Nova's report here.
