Ten minutes of previously unsurfaced footage of Pink Floyd from a North American leg of their In The Flesh Tour from 1977 has gone viral.
The footage which you can check out below, was taken from the band's show at the Anaheim Stadium in Anaheim, CA on 7 May, 1977, featuring sections of Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Wish You Were Here, and Money. It was uploaded by a set of fans who take pride in restoring and archiving bootleg media, known as the Pink Floyd Research Group.
Speaking about the footage, the group said the following.
"This footage is absolutely unbelievable, and nobody can deny it," they said.
"Not only is this the first real good footage of them performing Wish You Were Here in 1977, but it also captures amazing footage of pt. 6; great shots of all six onstage members (including [guitarist] Snowy White and [saxophonist] Dick Parry); Amazing footage of David doing the slide solo in pts. 6-9; the transitions between parts; the full pt. 7 vocal section; a very nice glimpse into the original screen-films for pts. 6-9 and Money; Dick Parry's entire sax solo in Money; and some utterly amazing closeups of Gilmour singing and playing Money. The list goes on".
Check out the footage for yourselves below.
As it turns out, the tour had finished two months after Pink Floyd performed at the Anaheim Stadium in Montreal, a show where frontman Roger Waters spat at an unruly fan, an incident which went on to inspire their next album, The Wall, which arrived in 1979.
"I felt this extreme feeling of alienation from these hundreds of thousands of people, all swilling beer and hooting and shouting,” Waters stated. “I suddenly had a visual image of an arena with a wall built across it and a band performing behind this wall".
“I remember thinking: ‘This is a great idea.’ So I started to talk to the other guys in the band, and of course, everybody thought I was completely insane".
This latest Pink Floyd news comes after it was also announced that their famous concert film, Live At Pompeii, is to be released on 4K Ultra HD Blu-Ray via Sony Music Entertainment next month.
Arriving on February 27, new movie will be shot against the backdrop of the ruins of Pompeii's famous Roman Amphitheatre in 4k, which has been upgraded from the original 35mm footage with newly remixed Dolby Atmos, stereo and 5.1 audio. More on this from Nova here.
