More than half a century after they brought the world together with a simple message of love and unity, The Beatles are officially recognising Global Beatles Day, the annual fan-led celebration inspired by one of the band's most iconic moments.

Celebrated every year on June 25, Global Beatles Day marks the anniversary of The Beatles' historic 1967 performance of All You Need Is Love during the BBC's Our World broadcast, the world's first live international satellite television programme.

On June 25, 1967, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr walked into Studio One at Abbey Road Studios and performed All You Need Is Love live to an estimated 400 million people across 26 countries, creating one of the most memorable moments in television and music history.

Now, nearly six decades later, fans around the world are preparing to celebrate that moment once again as Apple Corps Ltd., the company founded by The Beatles to manage their creative and business interests, has formally acknowledged the fan-created initiative for the first time.

The recognition marks a major milestone for a movement that began in 2009, when lifelong Beatles fan Faith Cohen decided the anniversary deserved a dedicated celebration. What started as a grassroots tribute has since evolved into a global event embraced by Beatles fans across generations and continents.

Over the years, Global Beatles Day has inspired tribute concerts in Tokyo, Beatles exhibitions in New York City, singalongs in Buenos Aires, and fan gatherings in Liverpool, all centred around the band's enduring message that "all you need is love."

To mark this year's celebration, The Beatles will release a newly colourised version of their famous All You Need Is Love performance online for the first time. The footage will premiere on YouTube on June 25, allowing fans worldwide to relive the historic broadcast together and share their reactions in a live chat.

In a letter to Faith Cohen, Apple Corps CEO Tom Greene praised the initiative and the values it represents.

"More than ever, the message of The Beatles, and of 'All You Need Is Love' speaks to something vital for community, connection, and the power of bringing people together."

"That is what makes Global Beatles Day so special. It asks nothing more than for people, wherever they are, to stop, listen, and share a little joy."

A statement from GlobalBeatlesDay.com describes the event as celebrating both The Beatles' musical achievements and their wider cultural influence.

It states: "Global Beatles Day (GBD), founded in 2009 and occurring annually on June 25th, honors and amplifies the enduring phenomenon and ideals of The Beatles, both collectively and individually, and their extraordinary gifts to the world."

The statement adds that the band's influence extends "far beyond music, reflecting a commitment to peace and love, youth, and the expansion of human consciousness."

It also notes that Global Beatles Day honours the moment The Beatles "brought the world together through their performance of 'All You Need Is Love', the first live global satellite broadcast, reaching over 400 million people across 26 countries in 1967."

Organisers say the celebration is "not about consumerism or fandom—it is a worldwide thank you, a collective expression of love and appreciation for the ideals The Beatles championed."

And to finish the section, you could use their closing line:

"Do something small that creates a ripple, and join a worldwide community honoring the message that still resonates today: all you need is love."

The celebration also highlights causes closely associated with members of the band.

Fans are encouraged to support initiatives such as Paul McCartney's Meat Free Monday, which promotes healthier and more sustainable lifestyles; George Harrison's Material World Foundation, which continues to support humanitarian and educational causes through the George Harrison Fund for UNICEF; John Lennon and Yoko Ono's Imagine Peace project, dedicated to promoting peace and unity; and Ringo Starr's Lotus Foundation, which supports a wide range of charitable causes including homelessness, cancer support, environmental projects and animal welfare.

Other affiliated organisations include MusiCares, which provides support and resources for music professionals, and PETA, the animal rights organisation long supported by McCartney.

The Beatles' influence continues to resonate far beyond their own generation. Countless public figures have spoken about the band's impact on their lives and careers.

Billie Eilish once said: "95% of My Love for Music Is Because of The Beatles."

Former US President Barack Obama described their influence by saying: "They blew the walls down for everybody else."

Legendary composer Leonard Bernstein reflected on the group's legacy following their split, writing: "The Beatles are no more. But... I am still jumping, weeping, remembering a good epoch, a golden decade, a fine time, a fine time..."

Meanwhile, Bruce Springsteen credited the band with opening up entirely new possibilities for aspiring musicians.

"This was different, shifted the lay of the land. Four guys, playing and singing, writing their own material … Rock 'n' roll came to my house where there seemed to be no way out … and opened up a whole world of possibilities."

The recognition of Global Beatles Day comes during another busy period for the band's legacy.

Earlier this year it was announced that 3 Savile Row, the site of The Beatles' legendary rooftop concert, will become the first official Beatles fan experience, opening in 2027.

Looking further ahead, fans are also eagerly anticipating the ambitious four-film Beatles cinematic event scheduled for release in April 2028.

Directed by Sam Mendes, the project will star Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr, Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney and Joseph Quinn as George Harrison. It marks the first time Apple Corps and The Beatles have granted full life story and music rights for a scripted film project.

More than 55 years after Beatlemania swept across the globe, Global Beatles Day continues to demonstrate the remarkable reach of the band's music and message.

On June 25, millions of fans are expected to celebrate not only the songs that changed popular culture forever, but also the ideals of peace, unity and human connection that remain at the heart of The Beatles' enduring legacy.
