Irish actors Barry Keoghan, Paul Mescal and Cillian Murphy are among the nominees for the British Film & TV Awards or their commonly used acronym the BAFTA’s.

Dubliner Keoghan is up for his role in Saltburn playing Oxford University student Oliver Quick who is drawn into an unsuspecting world at an aristocratic family home Saltburn where all manner of debauchery unfolds.

Movie Nations says ”Keoghan as innocent or cunning, oaf or graceful dancer-in-the-near-dark, will leave you amazed at this performance and startled at just what he was willing to do to fit in in “Saltburn” — the great house or the not-quite-great movie.”

The intense Corkonian Cillian Murphy is currently either favourite or a close second favourite for Oscar glory after his portrayal of the remarkable Robert J. Oppenheimer as he joins Keoghan in the Leading Actor nominees.

Murphy’s portrayal of the remarkable physicist who had a large hand in the development of the atomic bomb, thus helping to end World War 2 is considered career defining.

The critically acclaimed Christopher Nolan-helmed Oppenheimer leads the BAFTA nominations with 13.

Maynooth maestro Mescal’s turn as Harry in All of Us Strangers is seen him nominated in the Supporting Actor category, however there was disappointment in the Lead Actor category for Mescal’s co-star Dubliner Andrew Scott.

Keoghan and Mescal are previous BAFTA winners for The Banshees of Inisherin and Normal People, respectively.

Emma Stone who stars in dark fantasy Poor Things, which includes the Dublin-based Element Pictures among its producers, has received 11 nominations, among them Irish producers Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe and cinematographer Robbie Ryan.

In the Outstanding Debut category, the film Earth Mama, which includes Irish filmmakers Shirley O’Connor and Medb Riordan among its producers, is nominated.
