Chris Martin has revealed that he believes Coldplay’s future 12th album will be the band’s final bow, as they plan life outside the studio. Releasing their 9th studio album, Music of the Spheres tomorrow, the Shiver singer feels they will only make another three records afterwards before quitting the recording studio for good.

Speaking with Absolute Radio, Chris revealed that the Yellow hitmakers would not carry on releasing new albums indefinitely.

I think that in a few albums’ time we will finish making albums,” Chris revealed. “This is not a joke, this is true, I think after 12 that will be the end of our catalogue.

However, frontman Chris wouldn’t want Coldplay to retire completely, as the 44-year-old singer is keen for the band to play live shows into their 70s.

I think we will always want to play live together. So, I think in the way that the (Rolling) Stones do, it will be so cool if we can still be touring in our late 70s. That will be wonderful, if anybody wants to come.”

Coldplay released My Universe last month, which involves a collaboration with K-pop group, BTS. Chris said it has just been “a real joy” to make that song with them “from start to finish”.

It was such a weird idea, and it was so wrong on paper in a way, but it allowed us to bring out our inner boyband and them to bring out their inner old man band and collaborate in a middle-aged band.”

Coldplay are made up of Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman, Will Champion, and lead singer, Chris Martin. They shot to fame in 2000 with their album, Parachutes, and have gone on to complete 9 studio albums, thus far.

You can catch Coldplay’s full interview with Andy Bush tomorrow evening, on Absolute Radio at 6:30pm. The station will also broadcast Coldplay’s London O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire concert, with extended highlights from 7pm. The show will celebrate their incredible new album Music of the Spheres.
