Bryan Adams recently revealed that he almost gave away one of his biggest hits to another artist.
The Canadian singer made this revelation in a chat with 97.1 Rock, where he explained how his hit 'Run To You' was originally scribed for Blue Oyster Cult.
The track was ultimately the first of six singles from Adams fourth studio album, Reckless, which arrived in 1984. This was the first album to sell over a million copies in Canada, before being certified more than 10 times platinum in the area.
All six singles from Reckless managed to reach the Top 20 Billboard Charts, with Run To You peaking at No 6.
"Way back when I was working with Jim Vallance and we were just trying to carve it out as songwriters. Sometimes we put ourselves in a position of, 'Okay, today we're going to write a song for such and such, even if we didn't know how to get that song to them or not", Adams revealed.
"Sometimes that would inspire something [really good]. For example, the song 'Run to You' was written for a band called Blue Oyster Cult. They never got it or if they did, the producer, Bruce Fairbairn, who we gave it to, he never played it for them".
Other acts who had a chance to record 'Run To You' include 38 Special. While that did not materialise, they did record other Adams/Valliance collaborations, including 'Teacher Teacher', which saw the band reach the Top 40, having been released as part of the Teachers movie in 1984.
Earlier this month, Bryan Adams announced a run of UK arena shows in December. More on this from Nova here.
