It has been revealed that Barry Keoghan will reprise his role from crime drama Top Boy in a new Netflix series.
The new five-part series, Jonny Boy, will see the Irish actor return as Jonny McGee in a series about the origins of the character.
Keoghan played the menacing Irish mobster McGee in Top Boy, which originally aired on Channel 4 before moving to Netflix.
The Irish actor originally secured the role after reaching out to the show’s creators to tell them how much he admired the series.
Production company, WOLFCUB Productions will serve as producers for the new series.
"WOLFCUB Productions is proud to bring Jonny McGee - the character introduced in Top Boy's third and final season - to the screen in Jonny Boy. We pitched our vision and idea to Netflix and the Executive Producers and they were so supportive in wanting to bring our passion project forward, exploring Jonny McGee’s origin story through a new bold lens," the company said in a statement via RTE.
Jonny Boy is among a slate of new shows commissioned by Netflix at the Edinburgh TV Festival, which is currently underway.
It has also been revealed that Lisa McGee, creator of Derry Girls will debut her new Netflix series 'JIG'.
McGee's new show is a six-part mockumentary that is based on the world of competitive Irish dancing. The series is set to be filmed in Northern Ireland next year.
The series is about "best friends Cara and Fletcher, from the struggling Sweeney School of Dance in Derry, take on their sworn rivals in Florida, a slick, sponsored, seemingly unbeatable operation. We follow both teams as they journey towards the all-important World Championships. But who will lift that trophy?" according to the synopsis for JIG.
