Popular crime drama, KIN, is set to return for a third series next year, RTÉ have confirmed.
This comes as the national broadcaster announced its new television drama schedule, with KIN set to return to the screens, after going of air following the collapse of Canadian co-producer, Bron Studios. Bron Studios, who co-produced the drama along with Headline Pictures, in association with RTÉ, Nordic Entertainment Group and AMC, went bankrupt in 2023, putting the show's future in jeopardy.
KIN, which was co produced by Peter McKenna and Ciaran Donnelly, made its debut on RTÉ television in September 2021, and explored the activities of the fictional Dublin crime family, the Kinsellas as they became embroiled in gangland war.
The show, which included actors Aidan Gillen, Ciaran Hinds and Clare Dunne in its cast, was seen as a successor to popular drama, LOVE/HATE. Following the success of the first series, a second season following in 2023, and was acquired by the BBC and Netflix.
Season two saw Emmet J Scanlan, Yasmine, Seky and Charlie Cox star, and ended with Clare Dunne's character, Amanda Kinsella take over the family operation, leading to much speculation about a return for the series.
According to RTÉ, a synopsis for the show reads: "KIN Season three reunites the nation with the Kinsella crime family. As they consolidate power, buried betrayals and festering rivalries turn inward, and the greatest threat to the family empire becomes the family itself".
RTÉ has not released any further details regarding casting or plot lines for the new series of KIN, but have said that it is likely to air at some stage in 2027.
