Dermot Kennedy has shared his latest single, 'Honest' from his new album which is due to arrive in April.
The track which you can check out below, is from the singer's third album, 'The Weight of the Woods', which will arrive via Island Records on April 3. It was mainly written and recorded in a studio near his home in rural Ireland, alongside collaborator Gabe Simon.
Speaking about the album, Kennedy said: “To me, the album is a beautiful homegrown thing with Irish instruments and an Irish story. There’s a forest behind my house, which is a haven for my sense of wonder. It’s a peaceful place where I can escape. I’ve entertained the idea of living somewhere else, but I don’t think I’d be happy anywhere else".
The Giants singer went on say that a refresh approach to his creativity, his vocals are firmly placed in the spotlight.
“If I get up in a pub with just a guitar or a piano, I’m certain that I can sing to a room full of people. It’s where I’m the most comfortable. I wanted that element to be front-and-center on this album", he said.
At present, Dermot Kennedy is in the midst of a number of UK shows across record stores from March 23 to April 1. He will also play a series of UK dates, which will include a return to London's 02 on June 5 and July 2, as well as headline shows at Dublin's Aviva Stadium.
Last year, Kennedy also launched his own annual Global Irish Music Festival, taking place in Sydney and Boston, which he was to headline alongside other local artists from each city.
"I wanted to set up this festival to celebrate Ireland and our culture", Kennedy said at the time. "I think we’re all so proud of Irish music and always have been. Our culture reaches so far across the world so I wanted to do something that celebrates Ireland and our culture".
"We have always generated music and artists who punch well above their weight".
