Download Festival recently announced that they have renamed the main stage of their festival after Lemmy. The metal festival based in Leicestershire will take place from June 10th-June 12th.

The former Motörhead frontman Lemmy died late last year after a short battle with cancer. Download festival have now immortalised the metal legend by having his name a permanent fixture at the festival.

‘The Lemmy Stage’ as it is now known will be headlined this year by Iron Maiden, Rammstein and Black Sabbath, with festival boss Andy Copping stating that “a suitable tribute” to Lemmy will also take place during the weekend.

Lemmy’s trademark black cap will remain on the festival line-up poster in the place where Motörhead were due to perform at this year’s event.

36 bands were recently added to the Download festival 2016 line-up including Jane’s Addiction, NOFX, Bury Tomorrow and Sixx A.M. They will be joined by the likes of Korn, Deftones and Disturbed at Download Festival 2016.

The schedule for the festival sees Black Sabbath headline Saturday night (June 11), while Iron Maiden headline Sunday night (June 12). Rammstein will be the first headliners on ‘The Lemmy Stage’ kicking things off on June 10th.
