The HBO original documentary, 'Billy Joel: And So It Goes', is to be released in two parts, with part one premiering on the 18th of July and part two on the 25th of July. The documentary offers a glimpse into Joel's decades long career with rare footage, musical acievements and personal reflections.

Joel's documentary is directed by Emmy winners Susan Lacy and Jessica Levin, they describe the documentary in a statement as, “an expansive portrait of the life and music” of the music legend and explores his “love, loss, and personal struggles that fuel his songwriting.”

Lacy shares, “For those who think they know Joel’s story, as well as those who are not as familiar, I believe this two-part film is both a revelation and a surprise. I was drawn to his story as someone who knew little at the outset, and was astounded at how autobiographical his songs are and how complex his story is. We are gratified that Bill trusted us with his story, which we have told as honestly as possible, diving into territory which has not been explored before.”

'And So It Goes' delves into Joel's childhood aswell as his days as a struggling musician. The documentary explores the singer's inspirations for his classic hits 'Just The Way You Are' and 'Uptown Girl', it also includes interviews with Billy Joel, his ex-wives, current wife, daughter, members of his band and musical contemporaries, such as Bruce Springsteen, Sting, John Mellencamp, Nas, Pink, Garth Brooks, and Paul McCartney.

Co-director Lacy shared a message from the singer at the event, "Billy wishes he were here tonight, and he asked us to convey his greetings to you all," she adds, "He said getting old sucks, but it's still preferable to getting cremated."
