An Irish fashion chain with shops in Limerick, Portlaoise, Galway and more has confirmed their closure this week.

Born Clothing first opened in Newtownsmith, Galway in 2009, and expanded into a beloved clothing shop across Ireland.

The brand had more than 20 stores in Ireland at its peak, with locations still remaining in Cork, Dublin, Galway, Kerry, Kildare, Laois, Leitrim, Mayo, Westmeath and Tipperary.

A statement from the company confirmed their closure, writing online: ‘After 16 wonderful years in business, it’s time for us to say goodbye.

‘We want to sincerely thank each and every one of you for your support over the years — for shopping with us, supporting us, and being part of our journey. It has meant more than we can ever put into words.

‘To our wonderful team, thank you for being the heart and soul of our business. Your loyalty and dedicated will always be appreciated.’

They added that a 70% off closing down sale begins on Thursday

Social media users took to the comments to express their sorrow at the latest round of store closures.

‘Sorry to hear this,’ one wrote, ‘Always find something nice in your Donaghmeade shop.’

Another added: ‘You’ve got to be kidding! Half my wardrobe comes from Born.’

A third said: ‘Ah sorry to hear I’ll miss calling in. Love there clothes and staff were absolutely brilliant and helpful.’

The announcement comes as the High Court appointed provisional liquidators to the company on Tuesday.

It came as the court heard of difficulties stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic, minimum wage increases and rising business rates.

Unfortunately for anyone who has outstanding gift vouchers, they will not be accepted in-store due to pre-liquidation.

A notice on their website said: ‘No gift vouchers can be accepted during the liquidation sale.
