James Hetfield has unveiled his latest tattoo, a tribute to the late Motorhead musician Lemmy Kilmister.

Taking to social media, the Metallica lead singer showed off the tattoo on his middle finger.

That tattoo shows a spade inside what looks like an iron cross symbol, which is a symbol incorporated by Hetfield on previous guitars.

What makes this tribute to Lemmy stand out, is the fact that it contains some of the late rocker’s ashes, according to Hetfield, who also has a tattoo of an iron cross on his elbow.

Hetfield Pays Sweet Tribute To Lemmy

Showing off this special tribute via Instagram, James Hetfield wrote this: “With the steady hand of friend and tattoo artist @coreymillertattoo, this tattoo. A salute to my friend and inspiration Mr. Lemmy Kilmister. Without him, there would be NO Metallica”.

He also added, “Black ink mixed with a pinch of his cremation ashes that were so graciously given to me. So now, he is still able to fly the bird at the world”.

Lemmy Kilmister died from prostate cancer in 2015. In 2021, his ashes were placed in bullet casings and distributed among close friends.

Last month, it was also confirmed that some of his ashes were “enshrined” at the Rainbow Bar & Grill. This was a place where Kilmister was a regular fixture.

“Please join us as we enshrine Lemmy’s ashes at the Rainbow Bar & Grill. We also invite you to raise a very unique toast to Lemmy and Motorhead with the unveiling of brand new Motorhead Whiskey”, the Rainbow venue also added.
