Puerto Rico has seen a huge spike in tourism following Bad Bunny's performance at the Super Bowl Halftime Show.

The singer's performance at the event has led to travel searches for the Caribbean island skyrocketing, with people noticing the musical festivals, and stunning beaches to name a a few delights of Puerto Rico.

According to data gathered by Expedia, travel searches for the island have increased up to 245% over recent days, with San Juan seeing a 240% increase, while Vega Baja has experienced a spike of 1,450% increase.

It also emerged that flight searches for Mexico have increased by 210%, with Brazil and Colombia increasing by 120%, while Argentina has also seen a 70% increase over the same period.

Speaking about this data, Melanie Fish, Expedia Group's Vice President of Public Relations said: “Pop culture has a real influence on where people choose to travel, and we’re seeing that play out in a big way this week".

She added:  “After Sunday’s halftime performance, searches on Expedia for Puerto Rico and other key Latin American destinations skyrocketed as travellers looked to experience the energy they saw on stage for themselves. It’s a great example of how music and culture can inspire your travel plans, uncovering destinations you’ve never visited before".

The hope also remains that this will lead to a positive change and recognition of Puerto Rico's complex history and struggles, with Caribbean music academic, Wilfredo José Burgos-Matos saying: “When a Puerto Rican like Bad Bunny takes the stage on such a prominent platform, it serves as a reminder to audiences that Puerto Rico is real".

Speaking of this year's Super Bowl, fans have been calling on Foo Fighters to headline next year's half time show, after lead singer Dave Grohl was spotted in the crowd, watching on as Seattle Seahawks won out against the New England Patriots at Levi's Stadium, in Santa Clara, California.
