Legendary filmmaker Quentin Tarantino has hinted at a new chapter in the Kill Bill universe, revealing that he has a plan for a prequel that would explore the origins of the iconic antagonist, Bill.
The original Kill Bill saga — released in two volumes between 2003 and 2004 — starred Uma Thurman as The Bride, a deadly assassin on a path of vengeance against the five people who betrayed her. The films quickly became celebrated classics of the action genre, renowned for their stylish direction, intense battle sequences and homage to martial arts cinema.
To mark the enduring legacy of the series, a new edit of the entire saga — Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair — is being released this Friday, 5 December 2025. The compilation presents both volumes as one seamless cinematic experience, offering fans a fresh way to revisit the epic revenge tale.
In addition to the reissue, Tarantino and his team collaborated with the video game Fortnite to create Yuki’s Revenge, a short film animated using the Unreal game engine that explores a lost chapter from the original storyline. The project was celebrated at its premiere at the Vista Theater in Los Angeles, where Tarantino took part in a Q&A that turned to the future of the Kill Bill franchise.
When asked if more was coming from that universe, Tarantino responded: “We’ll see. I’ve got other things to do … I have a whole Kill Bill idea in my mind but I was wiped out. I like the idea of a Bill origin. And the three godfathers that made Bill: Esteban Vihaio, Pai Mei, and Hattori Hanzo. Will I live long enough to do that? That remains to be seen.”
The tantalising concept of a Bill origin story — potentially exploring the backstories of the three enigmatic mentors who shaped the fearsome assassin — has already sent fans into speculation mode. Esteban Vihaio, Pai Mei and Hattori Hanzo are deeply rooted in the mythology of Kill Bill, and the idea of delving into their histories could offer fresh insight into the broader world Tarantino has built.
Tarantino is known for taking his time between films, with his carefully curated oeuvre spanning decades rather than months. His last major release, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, came out six years ago, meaning many have been waiting patiently for his next project. The suggestion that this could be the 15th feature in his iconic filmography has ignited excitement across the movie community.
Fans are already asking big questions: Will Uma Thurman return to the franchise in some capacity? Could Tarantino once again tap favourites from his past collaborations such as Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio, Christoph Waltz or Jamie Foxx? And, given the franchise’s reputation, can audiences expect plenty of the visceral action — and yes, even the infamous foot scenes — that the series is known for?
One thing is almost certain: if Tarantino does pursue this idea, there will be a lot of blood. And a lot of style. The filmmaker’s distinct voice has always made his work a cultural event, and news of a Bill origin movie promises to keep fans talking well beyond the release of The Whole Bloody Affair this Friday.
