Radiohead drummer Phil Selway has spoken recently about work on the band’s new album. Selway said at the moment, work on the new album has been in periods but later this year they will get serious about it.

The follow up to 2011’s King of Limbs is said to be underway, but they have gradually worked on it over time, with most of the band also working on solo projects. Appearing on a podcast recorded for The Talkhouse, Selway said progress on the new album has been “in fits and starts”.

However, he said that come September “it just becomes quite a full schedule” with the band fully committing to work on the album. Speaking about the new album he said “For so long we kind of played exclusively with each other and that takes you so far, so I suppose from album to album you try to push yourself beyond your comfort zone.”

Selway spoke about their writing process through the years “We kind of change record to record, try and change the underlying approach to making music.” He also referred to the band’s “short attention span”, which contributes to the band’s need to switch things up.
