Biffy Clyro’s frontman Simon Neil chatted about the band’s upcoming album, claiming it will be an “aggressive” record.

The band’s seventh LP is expected to be out this year, although no release date has been announced.

The alt rockers’ last album came out in January 2013, titled Opposites. The new material Biffy Clyro are working on is much more “stripped back” then their sixth album.

Speaking with NME in November 2014, the singer indicated that the band were taking the slow and steady approach to their upcoming record.

Neil said: “We’re getting [the next album] together. Realistically it won’t be out until the end of next year. We’re working on the songs now, but we don’t want to rush it.”

“We’ve been in everyone’s faces for the last couple of years, so I think it’s important to disappear for a wee while and then come back all guns blazing.”

In a recent interview with Q magazine, the frontman claimed to have 80% of the LP completed and was hinting that this time around less is more.

Neil said: “We’ve probably got 20 songs that are about 80 per cent finished. It’s sounding really rocking at the moment. I think it’s important to put some more rules and limitations on what we do because on the last few records we ran with whatever ideas we had.”

“So on this one, when I say stripped back it’s not going to sound skeletal or anything but perhaps a bit more aggressive. Coming off the back of a double album, it’s important to be really concise so we might only have ten songs.”
