A range of Prince archival releases are featured in Piano & A Microphone 1983. That’s the live cassette recording Prince made in his Minneapolis home studio with the music legend playing on the piano.

As the title suggests, there’s no bells and whistles, just a piano, and a microphone. The album is due for release next week, and we’ve been privy to a few selections from it already. Those include Prince’s version of the traditional spiritual “Mary Don’t You Weep” and a demo for Purple Rain’s “17 Days.”

Now, we’re getting another track from the forthcoming record. It’s one of three songs on the record that have never been heard before. These tunes never made it onto an official Prince album.

“Why The Butterflies,” is a song lasting 6-minutes, although it’s obvious that Prince was still figuring out its exact structure. However, it’s an excellent recording and can hear a lot of different aspects of the musician as he tests out what works.
