Athy duo Picture This have been awarded the Choice Music Song of the Year accolade for their track ‘Take My Hand’. The Awards which took place last night at Vicar Street were hosted by Eoghan McDermott.

The award is especially meaningful for Picture This as it’s decided by the public showing the huge amount of support the band have amassed for such a new group.

However there are no real surprises in the strong response Picture This received for ‘Take My Hand’ seeing as their first EP Picture This, released last August debuted at no.1.  The band’s following also proved themselves last year when the band had a gig scheduled in the Grand Social Dublin and due to demand had to relocate to the Academy. They then sold out Dublin’s The Academy for their debut gig; making them the first ever band to achieve this!

At the time Jimmy said, “It hasn’t hit us yet. We were genuinely worried, we were like ‘Who’s going to come see us?’ We weren’t sure if we’d sell out,” says Jimmy Rainsford, drummer and backing vocalist for the band.”

The guys only got together in 2015. Before that Jimmy Rainsford was a drummer for singer Ryan Sheridan and Ryan Hennessy, lead vocals, was in a band called Bohemian. Rainsford spotted Sheridan performing in local venues and invited him to record some tracks the duo quickly hit it off and Picture This Was Born.

The duo are currently playing stateside but will return home for five dates this May and June in the Oylmpia.
